Description
The Horse Mill at Chromate Quarry in Hagdale, Unst, dates from around 1917 and is a single-storey circular structure that is now roofless. It features drystone rubble walls and has an entrance door on the south side. There is a tall window at eaves height on the north-northeast side, with matching windows positioned at right angles to the east and west, which correspond to openings for a shallow water channel. Internally, the walls have tapered flat edging stones at the base, and there is a circular lower millstone recessed in the center with a cast-iron stub. The wall also has a full-height check between the openings, and there is an overflow channel that curves around the south side of the mill.
