Millcroft Mill (former corn mill)

Millcroft Mill is a former corn mill dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is a two-storey building with a T-plan, situated against a steep bank at the southeast where the lade enters the building at an upper level. The structure is built of rubble with ashlar margins.

On the north elevation, there are four irregular bays, with doors located at both levels of the right bay. The remaining bays feature single small-paned windows, and there is a segmental-arched opening at the low level of the left bay, which serves as the tailrace from the wheel. A single dormer opening is present, and the roofs are covered with slate. There is also a canopied shelter attached to the west wall of the two-bay rear wing, supported by posts, along with a modern brick shed against the south gable.

Inside, the mill features an overshot wheel with timber arms and a cast-iron axle and outer frame, which is enclosed in a northeastern compartment within the building and remains in reasonable condition. Most of the gearing and machinery is still intact. Additionally, there are brick kilns in the rear wing, although the vents have been removed.
