Description
Whitbeck Mill is a mill that likely dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a slate roof. The building is two stories high and built into the slope of the ground. The north-east elevation features four bays, with the fourth bay possibly added later, and has an entrance on the first floor that leads to the return. There is a small lean-to outshut attached to the first bay. A partly blocked small window in the third bay has a stone lintel, while the first floor has windows with timber lintels. The second bay has a segmental-headed entrance, and there is also an entrance to the fourth bay. The north-west gable end includes a large narrow wheel made of timber and iron situated in a pit, with two windows above it and a projecting wall spur to the left. The south-east elevation has an outshut beneath a catslide roof and shows signs of a long gabled wing that has since been removed, along with some window openings. The interior of the mill retains some machinery.
