Description
The Village Cross, located on Bootle Main Street, was built in 1897 by the architectural firm Paley and Austin. Constructed from ashlar, it features three square steps, with the lowest made of dressed stone. The cross has a rectangular base with battered sides and includes a metal plaque on the west side that commemorates the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria, as well as market charters from 1348 and 1567. The plain flat cross shaft is topped with a Celtic round head.
