Description

Swallowhurst is a house with attached barns, dating from the late 18th century, with later alterations. A datestone reads "WE/IP/1770". The house is constructed of stone rubble, with a roughcast finish on the front, and has slate and concrete tile roofs. It is flanked by barns set at right angles to the ends.

The south elevation of the house is two storeys high and has three bays. It features coped gables with kneelers. The windows are 20th-century casements, replacing earlier sashes. A central porch with an elliptical head and archivolt, probably dating from around 1820, provides access, with glazed doors. A diamond-shaped datestone incorporating a heart motif is present. Gable-end stacks are also visible. Recessed and lower outbuildings flank the house; the west one has a through passage, and the right one a lean-to porch. Small casement windows are found on these outbuildings.

The barns project southward. The western barn has concrete tile roofing, altered returns, an entrance, and ventilation slots. The eastern barn is roughcast.
