Description

Cumbernauld College, designed by Gillespie, Kidd & Coia in 1971, is a three-storey technical college with a mainly rectangular plan and a distinctive stylised M-gable design. The upper two storeys are cantilevered out and supported by pilotis at the ground level. The building features metal-framed construction with harled concrete gables and horizontally banded windows.

The northwest elevation includes an entrance ramp leading to the first-floor entrance, which is flanked by walls and has railings at the entrance. There are irregular openings at the ground level, with later signage reading 'Cumbernauld College' positioned below the windows on the outer right. The first and second floors have continuous bands of glazing, and there are three tripartite skylights with sharply sloping angles on the outer left and right.

The southwest elevation showcases the stylised M-gable, while the rest of the elevation is not visible. The southeast elevation features irregular openings at ground level, a 64-light continuous glazing band on the first floor, a 56-light continuous glazing band on the second floor, and three tripartite skylights with sharply sloping angles on the outer left and right.

The northeast elevation has a blank stylised M-gable with a deep flat-arched recess rising to the first floor, which is glazed on the inside returns. There is later signage reading 'Cumbernauld College' along with a logo, centred on the second floor.

The interior was not seen in 2000, but the building predominantly has metal-framed horizontal pivoting windows. The roof is part-glazed and features corrugated metal on the second floor.

The entrance ramp is flanked by low concrete walls with cast-iron railings at the northwest entrance, and there is a cobbled embankment to the northeast.
