Description

Burnfoot Farmhouse and attached barn date to the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries and are located in Allendale Middle Hope. The farmhouse was originally built in 1678, as evidenced by the initials W.D. on the lintel above the central 20th-century door, which is set within a chamfered surround. The house was remodelled in the late 18th century, and an early 19th-century barn was added to the southwest.

The farmhouse is built of rubble with stone dressings and has a stone slate roof, with rebuilt gable stacks. It is two storeys high with three windows. It features 16-pane sash windows in beaded boxes. The attached barn to the left has slit vents and a loading door, with 20th-century openings below. The left return has an alighting ledge, and the gable features a pigeon or owl hole. The rear of the farmhouse has some 16-pane sashes, while other windows have been replaced within the original window openings. A gabled rear wing has a 20th-century doorway in a late 17th-century chamfered surround on the right return, with an outshut to the left. The interior includes a curved staircase dating from the early 19th century.
