Description

Benvie Farmhouse and its associated farm buildings date back to the early 18th century but were largely rebuilt after a fire in the early 20th century. The farmhouse is a two-storey, L-shaped structure with five bays and features attached single-storey outbuildings. The exterior is harled with ashlar margins and angles on the south elevation, while the east outbuildings are constructed from rubble with irregular quoins. The roofs are piended and covered with grey slate. The windows are 12-pane sash and case types, and the chimney stacks are coped with uniform terracotta cans, featuring tall end stacks at the east and west gables.

On the south elevation, there is a central panelled door with a four-pane fanlight above it, flanked by two windows on each side, and five windows on the first floor. To the right, there is a recessed window in a single-storey bay. The east gable has a single-storey bay in the centre with a window, and the outbuildings are attached to the right, with another window on the first floor to the right. The west elevation is asymmetrical, featuring an unsympathetic single-storey addition in the centre, a modern-framed window to the left, and a margined window to the right, along with two windows on the first floor. The outbuildings are attached at the left angle.

The north elevation has an advanced gable to the right with a window at both the ground and first floor, and a flat-roofed bay at the re-entrant angle with windows, including another window on the first floor. Inside, there is a well stair with decorative cast-iron balusters, a door with a fanlight leading to the kitchen area, although most of the period chimneypieces have been removed.

The east outbuildings feature four doors and two windows on the south elevation, along with a ridge stack and two ridge ventilators. The north elevation has three boarded fuel doors to the left and a window to the right. The west outbuildings have four windows on the south elevation and two windows to the left on the north elevation. The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls topped with rubble coping.
