Description
The East Gates and Gatepiers at Balruddery House were designed by David Neave around 1820 and are constructed from ashlar sandstone and rubble. The gates, which date from around 1890, are wrought-iron, featuring a two-leaf design with an intricate pattern, along with side gates.
The gatepiers are two massive round-section structures that include a base course, pilasters, a moulded architrave, and a cornice. Each pier is topped with a domical cap and a squat urn finial, with pilasters on either side that project as gateposts.
Surrounding the gates are quadrants made of a six-course polished ashlar wall, which includes a base course and a coped balustrade. The quadrants also feature piers on the left and right, each with rounded pyramidal caps, and are flanked by rubble walls.
