Description

The Stables and Offices at Balruddery House, designed by David Neave around 1820, is a quadrangular-plan stable court that has been converted into six residential units in 1992. The building is single storey and attic, as well as two storey and attic, constructed from rubble with tooled and margined ashlar dressings and a grey slate roof. It features modern stained timber windows that are not in character with the original design, along with small modern dormers that have piended roofs and gabled canopy porches.

On the west elevation, there is a slightly advanced two-storey and attic bay at the center, which includes a keystoned depressed carriage arch, a band course, and a margined tripartite window on the first floor, with an oculus above. To the left of this bay, there are two doors and windows, with four windows above and three dormers. To the right, there is a door and three windows, along with two windows and dormers above.

The south elevation also features a slightly advanced two-storey and attic bay at the center, which has a full-height, slightly recessed round-headed panel, a modern door, and two irregular window openings. There is a dovecot with three rows of flight holes in the attic, topped with a pyramidal roof that has a louvred ventilator and a weather cock at the ridge. The bays to the left and right contain a door and a window above, with large timber canted windows in the outer bays that have swept roofs and dormers.
