Description
The building is a former smithy dating from around 1800, with an east gable dated 1841. To the west, there is a byre and an earth closet that were added in 1914, featuring a new sheet roof. It is a single-storey, rectangular-plan structure built of rubble masonry with rough-hewn ashlar dressings. The main building has a corrugated asbestos roof, while the 1914 additions have slate roofs. There are two coped ridge stacks with thackstanes.
On the southeast elevation, there is a central two-leaf door flanked by 12-pane fixed windows that have timber casements at the bottom. To the right, there is an enlarged entrance with paired sliding doors, and to the left, another two-leaf door. The byre and lean-to earth closet are slightly recessed to the far left, although this elevation is partially obscured by an imber store. The east gable features a moulded segmental pediment that is indented at the roof space. The north elevation has two boarded windows and an entrance to a fuel store with a boarded door.
Inside, the hearths have been removed, but the shoe racks remain intact. The boundary walls are made of rubble and form an acute angle to the west, where there is also a pigsty located in the angle.
