Description
The Hearse House at the Parish Church in Fowlis Easter, dated 1841, is a two-storey building with a rectangular plan and a low single-storey addition. It is constructed from snecked rubble with stugged ashlar dressings that have droved margins, chamfered at the openings. The roof is covered with grey slate and is half-piended at the addition. Most of the windows are sash and case, featuring a 12-lying-pane design on the west side and an 8-pane design on the addition. The building has deep eaves with exposed purlins and brackets, as well as corniced ridge stacks.
On the east elevation, there is a boarded door to the stable located in the centre left, with a stone forestair to the left that has iron balusters and a handrail leading to a platt and door at the first floor. To the right, there are paired boarded doors leading to the hearse house, and a door and window are found in a slightly recessed single-storey bay at the far right.
The south gable features a window to the right, with timber casements at the bottom and six fixed panes at the top, along with a small six-pane window on the first floor. The west elevation has two windows on the first floor.
Inside, the building contains a two-stall stable with timber trevis and hecks, and a cobbled floor. There is also a room on the first floor, which was formerly two rooms, featuring two chimneypieces and moulded cornices.
