Description
The West Coach House and Steading at Balruddery House, designed by Charles Edward and Thomas Saunders Robertson around 1880, is a two-storey, rectangular-plan building that features classical detailing. Originally a coach house and steading, it was converted into two residential units in 1992. The structure is built of snecked and random rubble with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof.
On the east elevation, there are three gabled bays, each with large boarded door openings. The center gable is slightly recessed and features a large rectangular moulded panel with a drop-keystoned segmental arch. Above this, there is a round-headed window in the attic, framed by pilasters and a moulded keystoned architrave. The gablehead has a coped skew with kneelers and a mannered pediment. The left and right gables have enlarged entrances at the ground floor, boarded hayloft doors, and an oculus above.
The south elevation has a slightly advanced gable to the left, which includes a large modern projecting window and an oculus in the roofspace. To the right, there are French doors and two windows, along with four windows on the first floor.
