Description

No. 39 on Front Street is a house and shop, which was formerly a post office, dating from the early 19th century. The building features painted roughcast render with ashlar dressings and quoins, and has a stone-flagged roof with yellow brick chimneys. It is two storeys high and has three windows.

On the left side, there is an elliptical vehicle arch with pecked and margined alternate-block jambs and voussoirs. The boarded doors have trellis upper parts. The central house door and the wider former shop door on the right have painted tooled surrounds, with the left surround being slightly chamfered. All windows have similar surrounds and projecting stone sills. The former shop window on the right has four rows of five panes, while the left side of the house door features 16-pane sashes on both floors, with additional sashes located above the arch and above the former shop. There are chimneys positioned at the left of the second bay and at the right end of the building. A long stone step leads up to both doors.
