Description
Lanchester House, located on Front Street in Lanchester, is a house with area walls dating from the second quarter of the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The house features painted incised stucco with painted ashlar dressings, a plinth, and quoins. The return gables are rendered on sandstone rubble, and the roof is stone-flagged with stone gable copings and ashlar chimneys.
The house is two storeys high and has three bays. There are steps leading up to a central door, which has three vertical panels and an overlight, all set in a plain stone surround with corner blocks and a plain hood. The flanking canted bays and first-floor windows have margined sashes in plain stone surrounds. The quoins project, and there are stone gutter brackets. The roof features end coping on moulded kneelers and end chimneys with cornices on plinths. At the rear, there is a round-headed stair window with intersecting glazing bars, and an attic window with eight horizontal panes, one of which opens, and broad glazing bars.
The dwarf walls in front of the house have overhanging chamfered coping.
