Description
Shill House is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with a 19th-century rear wing. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring dressed quoins and window surrounds. The building has a rendered parapet with a moulded stone cornice and a stone slate roof, which includes moulded stone gable copings. There are flanking chimneys, with the left one rendered and the right one rebuilt in brick.
The house is two storeys high and has two bays. It features 3-pane sash windows in chamfered stone surrounds, with flush aprons between the storeys. The left gable end has a two-light window on the first floor, which includes a chamfered stone mullion and a Tudor hoodmould. The 19th-century rear wing has a gabled attic storey with a 20th-century two-light barred wooden casement. Below this, there is a tripartite sash window above a canted bay window with sashes, and a marginally glazed stair window above the door to the right. Both first-floor windows have shallow stone arches with keyblocks.
The door features Gothick glazing in the upper panels and a depressed arch made of moulded stone. A stone porch enhances the entrance, supported by attached fluted Doric columns, scroll brackets, and an open pediment hood.
