Description

Manor Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a 20th-century bay added to the right. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with rough quoins and features a stone slate roof, which has a rebuilt rubble stone chimney on the original right gable. The building is two storeys high with an attic and consists of two original bays. The windows are wooden casements, renewed in the 20th century, with various glazing bars; most are two lights, but there is a three-light window on the ground floor to the right. The gabled roof dormers have been refurbished in the 20th century. The central entrance is a 20th-century board door with a concrete lintel. The 20th-century bay to the right matches the original style and has two-light casements with concrete lintels. On the ground floor at the rear, there are two 17th-century windows, possibly re-sited, one being a single light and the other a two-light window with a chamfered stone mullion and a Tudor hoodmould. Inside, there is a single chamfered spine beam in the original part, a slightly altered fireplace, an axial winder stair in a shaped well with a sunken handrail, and an original double purlin roof. The cottage is included for its group value.
