Description

The Old Bakery is a late 18th-century house, with a former bakery use, located on the north-east side of Lower End in Alvescot. The building is L-shaped and constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with stone left bays. It is two storeys high and comprises three bays, with the left bay added slightly later. The right bays feature original boxed four-pane sash windows, each set within a cambered stone arch with a flush keystone. A 20th-century sash window was inserted to the first floor. A flush-panelled top-lit door, also with a cambered stone arch and keystone, sits between the right bays, and is sheltered by a 20th-century lean-to wooden porch with leaded glazing and a stone slate roof. The left bay has 20th-century plastic windows designed to resemble sashes, with one to the ground floor set in an altered opening, and a blocked doorway to the left. A lean-to addition extends to the rear of the right bay, on its right side.
