Description

Nos 1-8 are a large commercial development built in the French Gothic style. The structure features grey stone in shallow courses with painted stone dressings and steeply pitched slate roofs that have bracketed eaves. The ground floors have modern shopfronts. The building consists of three storeys plus an attic. The end block, No 2, has a steep pavilion roof with a stone dormer that contains two Gothic windows. On the second floor, there are four windows with Gothic heads, and on the first floor, there is a broad oriel window with Gothic lights, two of which face the front. The rounded corner to the left has a Gothic window on both the first and second floors, and there are four windows on the left return with a dormer (similar to the front) set across the eaves. The elevation continues down Skinner Street with an additional four windows, but these are in yellow brick.

Nos 3 to 6 each feature a Gothic oriel window on the first floor and an attic dormer on the second floor. Nos 3 and 5 have three windows, while Nos 4 and 6 have four windows. Nos 7 and 8, which were formerly the central block, have a pair of steep pavilion roofs with iron cresting. Each roof has a Gothic dormer with two-light Geometrical tracery. On the second floor, there are eight windows with T-glazing, and on the first floor, there is a broad oriel window with six Gothic lights facing the front.
