Description
The Barn at The Barn Farm is a tall, seven bay barn dating from the early 19th century. It was likely part of the Home Farm for the Llanwern estate. The barn features whitewashed rubble elevations and a slated, gabled roof. Both the southwest and northeast elevations have a large, central full-height cart doorway, which is partially blocked, with three ventilation slots on either side at first floor level. At ground floor level, there are six round-headed arches with voussoired heads that are now blocked, which originally provided access to a stalled undercroft, possibly used for pigs. The barn has a pegged "A" frame roof with three trenched purlins, a ridge beam, and tie beams. The northeast gable includes a large window with a timber lintel, now blocked, and a ventilation slot above it. The southwest gable features a modern opening at ground floor level.
