Description

Langstone Court Farmhouse is a substantial dwelling constructed in three phases. The central range likely dates from the 15th century, aligned north-south, while the western two-storey range was built in the 17th century, aligned east-west. A lower 19th-century addition was added to the east, set back and also aligned east-west. The exterior walls are whitewashed and rendered, topped with steeply pitched slate roofs. Four gable chimneys, rebuilt in yellow brick (two to the central range and one each to the western and eastern ranges), are visible. The windows have largely been replaced with modern casements and small-pane sash windows. These are symmetrically arranged on the front (south-western) range and the rear (northern) central range. The central range’s front elevation features a large projecting chimney stack reaching the eaves, with blocked square window openings high in the gable on both the south and north faces. The rear elevation has a variety of modern windows arranged seemingly at random.

A modern gabled porch on the south side leads into the 17th-century western range. The interior has been largely modernized. A good, original oak staircase with five landings, turned balusters, a flat moulded handrail, flat-topped newels, ball pendants, and solid moulded strings, survives in the western range. To the right of the entrance hall are two long, square-headed 15th-century openings with hollow-chamfered mullions and chamfered sandstone jambs. These were formerly on the gable of the earliest hall range but are now internalised by the 17th-century range. The basement of the 19th-century wing contains a surviving cast iron range at the east end. The original roof structure is an "A" frame design with pegged and trussed timbers.
