Description
Furnace Cottages are a pair of cottages built from red sandstone rubble, topped with a concrete tiled roof. The buildings have undergone some restoration, making their original layout difficult to discern; notably, one chimney stack has been removed to below the roofline. The cottages are two storeys high and were likely originally three double-fronted cottages. There is a single-storey extension to the right, which features a door and a window. The main block has six windows and three doors, arranged as follows: window, door, window, door, window, window, door, window, with an additional window and door in the right wing. The doors are modern and part-glazed with elliptical heads. Two chimney stacks remain, one located between the first and second bays from the left and the other on the right gable. The rear elevation was not observed during the survey.
The interior was not accessible during the resurvey, but it is clear that changes have been made through conversion, and some of the original small rooms no longer exist.
