Description
Furnace Dam is a structure made of rubble sandstone walling with a concrete abutment on the far bank. At the near end of the dam, there is a low arch with an elliptical head for the sluice. The dam features two central openings with rubble sides and varying sills for the spillways. The fourth opening on the far bank is now blocked with concrete, and the rubble sides have collapsed downstream. The central spillway has low parapets flanking a projecting ramp. Currently, the dam provides a head of water between 2 to 2.5 meters. It measures approximately 40 meters in length and about 2.5 meters in width. A modern wooden bridge is situated on top of the dam.
