Description

Ivy Cottage is an early 19th-century house with a small attached wing, now divided into two properties: The Laurels and No. 2 Drybridge Street. The main façade is roughcast and designed to resemble stone, topped with a Welsh slate roof and red brick chimneys. The building has three storeys and three windows, featuring a double fronted central entrance plan with a projecting rear wing. The entrance consists of a six-panel door that is partially glazed, framed with wood architrave and topped with a hood supported by brackets.

On the ground floor, the windows are 8 over 8 pane sashes. The first floor has a 6 over 6 pane sash above the door, flanked by an 8 over 8 pane sash on the left and a 2 over 2 pane sash on the right. The top floor features 4 over 8 pane sashes flanking a 3 over 6 pane sash. The hipped slate roof has overhanging eaves and chimneys on each gable wall. There are spiked wrought iron railings and a gate at the front.

To the right is a small one-storey extension (No. 2), which has an early 20th-century door with a small hood and a steel casement window to the right, with a plain roof. The gable returns are blind, with the stacks visible. The rear elevation includes a projecting wing to the left (No. 2), featuring a canted oriel window on the first floor and a tripartite sash window with glazing bars above, capped with a hipped roof. To the right (The Laurels) is an arched stair window, a 6 over 6 pane sash with a steel casement above it, along with a small single-storey wing.

No. 2 comprises the right-hand bay of the main house and the small wing to the right with its entrance, and it includes the projecting wing at the rear. The interior has not been seen during the resurvey.
