Description

The National Westminster Bank, which incorporates the former houses at numbers 1 and 2 Hocker Hill Street, is a former Georgian house that has been converted into a bank. The building features walls that are rendered with scored stucco and a hipped slate roof that is set behind a parapet. It stands four storeys tall.

The frontage facing Beaufort Square has a two-window range of sashes without glazing bars on the top two storeys. The main entrance, located at first floor level off the square, includes a tripartite multipane window to the right and a wide doorway to the left. This doorway is flanked by paired pilasters and has a shallow enriched hood in the Adam style, along with a blind overlight and double doors.

In front of the building, there is a terraced forecourt that extends over the basement and is enclosed by railings topped with urn finials on stone coping. The elevation on Middle Street features a four-window range of 12-pane sashes across four storeys. The Hocker Hill Street elevation retains elements of the former pair of houses, showcasing a four-window range of sashes, with 9-pane sashes on the second floor and 12-pane sashes on the first floor. There are paired entrance doorways set in round-arched recesses that are accessed by six steps, featuring six-panelled doors and fanlights with radial glazing, flanked by a 12-pane sash to the right and a tripartite sash to the left.
