Description

St Maur is a large Georgian townhouse, currently serving as offices and a restaurant, and is attached to buildings on either side. The exterior features walls that are rendered with scored roughcast and painted scored quoins, topped with a slate roof that has a rendered end stack. The building is double-fronted and consists of three storeys plus a basement. It has a moulded wooden cornice adorned with symmetrical fret ornamentation. The façade includes five windows arranged in a range of 2-pane horned sashes with exposed frames set in shallow reveals, along with two canted bays on the ground floor. The central entrance features a square-headed door with a wooden doorcase, an overlight, and a projecting hood supported by square-section chamfered wooden columns. There are three steps leading up to a walled and railed forecourt that leads to the front door, while steps on the left side descend to the basement, which is used as a restaurant. The railings surrounding the forecourt are topped with urn finials on the posts.

Inside, the building retains some original woodwork, including six-panelled doors, door surrounds, panelled reveals, shutters, and some unpainted panelling in the front left room, which is reputed to have originated from another location. The central hall features a staircase with turned balusters that rises behind the front rooms, running parallel to the building's frontage.
