Description
The Old Dispensary is a three-storey, double depth central entrance house, dating from the 18th century. It features a stucco front that is painted, with cill bands and a Welsh slate roof. The façade has five windows and a central doorcase adorned with a broken pediment and three-quarter fluted Doric columns. The entrance includes a six-panel door topped with a radiating bar fanlight. The windows are early 19th century sashes, some with original glass, arranged as six over six panes on the lower floors and three over six on the upper floor. A modillion cornice runs along the top, and the hipped roof is accented with spike finials at the corners and large brick stacks on either wall.
The rear elevation has not been seen. Although the interior could not be inspected during the resurvey, it is reported to have retained 18th century panelling in the front room to the right of the entrance. The staircase features an 18th century balustrade that has been reused on a more modern flight of steps.
