Description

16 St. James' Square is a two-storey and attic house dating from the 18th century. The main range runs parallel to the street, with a front elevation that has been rendered and painted. It has a Welsh slate roof. The house has four windows, arranged as 3 plus 1. A central entrance is positioned within the three window bay, featuring a part-glazed door and a hood/porch which is integrated with the roofs of the flanking canted bays. These canted bays contain 2-over-2 pane sash windows flanked by 1-over-1 pane windows. The first floor features later 19th-century 2-over-2 pane sash windows. The additional bay to the right has a standard 6-over-6 pane sash window on both floors. Two gabled dormers are visible in the roof, which is hipped to the right. The rear elevation is not visible. The interior has been extensively altered and no original features were noted during a recent inspection.
