Description

The Old Nag's Head Public House is a building with medieval origins, constructed primarily from red sandstone rubble, with 19th-century elements that are likely also red sandstone but may include brick, especially in the upper storey. The tower remains unpainted, while the inn is rendered and painted. The south-east wing of the inn, which was formerly a stable, is made of painted rubble. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate and feature red brick stacks.

The main structure is rectangular, with a half-round tower on the north gable and an east wing that projects from the south-east corner. The building has two storeys and an understorey, with the tower displaying a battered base. The main entrance is located in the gable end and features a recessed door on the left, topped with a flat hood supported by brackets. There are two windows on each floor, all of which are 4 over 4 pane sashes, except for the top left window, which is 6 over 6. The gable is adorned with wavy bargeboards.

On the street front, there is a small cellar door, a plate glass oriel window on the ground floor to the left, and two 6 over 6 pane sashes above. The roof is plain, with a stack on the left wall's front slope and another on the right gable. The tower contains a 6 over 6 pane sash on the ground floor and an 8 over 8 above, along with a small casement window in the timber-framed gable of the main block behind. The east wing has a plain door and a 2 x 2 light casement window, with a plain roof. The rear elevation was not visible during the survey, and only the ground floor was inspected, with no pre-19th-century fabric observed.
