Description

The Old Toll House, formerly Dixton Gate Turnpike, dates to the 18th century and is constructed of roughcast render, likely over brick, with a Welsh slate roof. The building features a half-octagonal central range flanked by smaller wings. The projecting entrance front is three bays wide and has a pediment-shaped hood over the central doorway, which now has a plain replacement door. Each face of the central range has sash windows; these are 6 over 6 pane on the lower floor and 3 over 6 pane above. Single-storey wings extend to either side, each with a single ground floor window and blind recesses above. The roof is hipped at the front of the central section, with the remainder hidden behind parapets. A tall stack is situated in the angle between the projecting front and the left wing. The rear elevation is not visible. The interior was not inspected during a recent survey.
