Description
This is a stucco-fronted double-depth pair of houses, likely built over brick, on St. James' Square. The buildings probably date from the 18th century. They have Welsh slate roofs and cast iron spearhead railings along the frontage. Each house has two windows per floor. The upper windows are two-over-two pane sashes, while the ground floor windows are tripartite. The doorways are round-headed, with plain fanlights and panel doors. Ebberley House, on the right, has a six-panel door with a keyed head, a tall pilastered surround, and a pediment above the key. The house to the left (No. 22) has a part-glazed door and a trellis porch. The roof has a low pitch and a brick stack on the party wall. Reports indicate that the interior shows no evidence of fabric surviving from earlier 17th-century houses. The rear elevation was not observed during inspections.
