Description
Nos. 15 and 17 St. James' Street are 17th-century houses made of red brick with Welsh slate roofs. They are single fronted and double depth, with entrances on the left side. Each house has three storeys and an attic, featuring one window per storey. The doorways have open pediments supported by brackets, with semi-circular heads, plain fanlights, and six-panel doors; No. 15 has four glazed panels. The windows are 8 over 8 pane sashes, while the second-floor windows have 4 over 8 panes. The houses have a modillion eaves cornice, with roofs hipped together and gabled dormers featuring 3 over 3 pane sashes for each house. There are two tall chimney stacks located on the centre and right-hand walls. The rear and side elevations are rendered and painted, with some sash windows and a projecting attic oriel on No. 17. Each house has a separate roof at the rear. The interior has not been seen during the resurvey.
