Description
Nos. 15 and 17 St. James' Street are a pair of red brick double-depth houses dating from the 18th century. They have Welsh slate roofs and entrances to the left of each property. Each house is three storeys high with an attic, and has one window to the front. The doorways are topped with open pediments supported by brackets, and feature semi-circular heads, plain fanlights, and six-panel doors; the door to No. 15 has four glazed panels. The windows are 8 over 8 pane sashes, with the second-floor windows being 4 over 8 panes. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the building, and the roof is hipped, with a gabled dormer containing a 3 over 3 pane sash window to each house. Two tall chimney stacks are located on the centre and right-hand walls. The rear and side elevations are rendered and painted, with a projecting attic oriel window to No. 17. Each house has a separate roof at the rear. The interior, which was not inspected during a later survey, was previously recorded as containing an open-well staircase with a continuous handrail and two stick balusters to each step.
