Description

The gateway and gates to Troy House consist of a pair of tall square gate piers made of banded sandstone ashlar. Each pier features cornices and shallow pyramidal tops, supporting a pair of full-height wrought-iron gates. The gates are designed with two unequal tiers of enriched bar railings, separated by a band of foliated scrollwork. The lower tier includes slender dog-bars, while the top rail is adorned with exuberant scrolled cresting. Attached to the outer side of each pier is a curved dwarf wall, which appears to be of 19th-century character and carries plain bar railings.
