Description
The main gateway and gates to Condover Hall date from the 19th century and are located at the end of an axial driveway, approximately 130 meters east of Condover Hall, aligned with the central porch. The gateway is constructed of pink sandstone ashlar and features iron gates, while the surrounding walls are made of roughly coursed sandstone rubble.
The gateway consists of an arched entrance flanked by walls and square panelled piers. These piers support a moulded Renaissance arch that has a scrolled keystone, above which is a cornice with scroll consoles. The design includes a stepped gable adorned with scroll mouldings and angle obelisks, similar to those found on the Hall, topped with a small pediment that displays the Owen coat of arms featuring a lion rampant at its center. The short flanking walls have brackets supporting the gateway and end in square piers on either side, each with stepped caps and lions; one pier features a double-headed eagle while the other has a scroll. The wrought iron gates, dating from the 19th century, are embellished with fleur-de-lys finials.
The rubble walls to the north and south stand about 2.5 meters high and are capped with dressed coping stones.
