Description
The grotesque statue at the northwest corner of the lower terrace, located to the west of Condover, dates from the late 19th century and is likely the work of Reginald Cholmondeley. It is made of sandstone and is mounted on a curved wall that extends from the northwest corner of the lower terrace, which is also listed at Grade II.
The statue features a seated figure with crossed arms and legs, positioned on a square pillar of dressed sandstone. A curved retaining rubble wall extends eastward toward the formal gardens and ends in a semi-circular feature to the west. A plaque attached to the pillar provides information about its probable provenance.
