Description

Llanover Police Station is a two-storey building constructed of squared red sandstone rubble at the base, featuring ashlar dressings, and rendered and painted surfaces above, likely over brick. It has ashlar quoins and window dressings, decorative timber framing in the gables, and red tile roofs with rendered stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan with an additional small gabled wing, creating a picturesque outline that reflects its dual purpose as a police station and a house.

The house elevation includes a projecting gabled wing on the left, which has a 2-light kitchen window below with a central mullion and a 2-light casement above. The gable features bargeboards and a drop finial. There is an entrance bay with a pent roof that extends to the right over the Sitting Room window. A tall stack is positioned above, though its decorative pots have been removed. The return gable has 3-light windows with stone mullions both below and above, with the centre light being a paired casement, and the gable treatment is consistent with the others.

The rear wing serves as the Police Station, featuring a door in the gable end and paired 2-light casements in the gable above, with similar gable treatment. The rear elevation displays two different roof pitches for the station and the house. The station has two windows on the ground floor, while the house has one on the upper floor along with another tall stack. The interior was not seen during the resurvey.
