Description

The Old Police Station is a two-storey building constructed from thinly coursed greenstone and topped with a Welsh slate roof. It features a complex layout, with the police station projecting forward, the Inspector's house to the right, and the section house and cells located behind. A tall chimney, which may be an addition, is also present.

The station has a forward gable and a two-storey projecting bay, with each floor featuring a 4-light window. There is a plain doorway to the right and a slit vent in the gable above. Between the windows, the inscription reads "POLICE STATION 1859". On the left side, there are a 3-light and a 4-light window on the ground floor, along with two half-dormers that likely date from the mid-20th century above.

The Inspector's house, which is taller, has a 3-light window on each floor set under relieving arches, with a door located to the left of the window. The gable end features an external stack flanked by 2-light windows, while the rear elevation also has 2-light windows. The section house has a gable facing the street, with a door and two 2-light windows below and a tripartite window above. All gables are coped with kneelers, and there are ridge and gable stone stacks. A tall square stack, which has three diminishing stages, is joined to the left front corner of the section house and still carries the air-raid siren.

The interior was not seen during the resurvey, but given its original purpose, it is expected to have a utilitarian design.
