Description

Knockview is a late 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay policeman's house and police station, with a single-storey wing to the north. The building is constructed from squared and snecked whinstone, featuring contrasting ashlar dressings.

The west elevation of the house has a central door with timber pilastered jambs and a letterbox fanlight. There are bipartite windows flanking the door at ground level, with stone mullions. The outer bays on the first floor have windows that break the eaves in gabled dormerheads. A string course divides the ground and first floors, with downpipe loops.

On the north elevation, the single-storey police station is recessed. It features a panelled door with a letterbox fanlight in the chamfered, gabled northwest angle, with "Police Station" embossed on the lintel. To the right, there is a window, and three windows face north, two of which are likely for cell accommodation.

The windows throughout are sash and case, with nine-pane upper sashes and plate glass lowers. The roof is covered with grey-blue slates, and the eaves are overhanging with exposed rafters. The gables have barge boards and kingposts, and there are corniced ashlar stacks.

The boundary walls consist of low rubble with ashlar saddleback coping, ending in pyramidal capped gatepiers. The walls are topped by decorative fleur-de-lys railings, with both pedestrian and two-leaf drive gates.
