5 Mid Street, Cornhill

5 Mid Street, Cornhill, is a late 19th-century semi-detached pair of symmetrical single-storey cottages with an attic. The cottages are constructed from squared and pinned whinstone rubble, featuring contrasting granite and sandstone ashlar dressings. They have a rubble base course with an ashlar band course above and an eaves course. The windows have wooden mullions and are designed as bipartites.

On the northeast elevation, there are segmental-arched doorways located on the return elevation of gabled porches, which are recessed to the outer left and right, and feature overhanging eaves (with modern doors). The main elevation has two bipartite windows, and above them are gabled, slate-hung dormers in the attic, which contain round-headed windows. There are later additions at the rear of the cottages.

The cottages originally had sash and case windows with a 4-pane glazing pattern, but No 5 has been altered to include uPVC windows. The roof is covered with grey slates and is piended, gabled at the apex, and adorned with decorative ridge tiles and finials. An ashlar coped skew divides the cottages, and there is a coped central stack. The decorative rainwater goods have been retained. Adjoining No 5 is a flat-roofed modern garage.
