Description

Early 19th century with alterations. Pair of 2 single storey and attic terraced cottages (that to N 2 dwellings) built into sloping land; lower cottage (No 58) stepped down at slightly lower level; both with coped gables with scrolled skewputts with diamond pattern decoration. Coursed stugged sandstone, painted white to principal (N) elevation; harled to E elevation (No 58); ashlar dressings. Eaves band and eaves cornice to principal elevation; architraved openings (those to No 58 are slightly stopped at upper corner of jambs).

N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: central entrance to both cottages; both with 4-panel timber doors and narrow rectangular fanlights. Flanking outer windows to each cottage; 2nd window to left to No 58; small inserted window to right to No 60. Later inserted boxed dormer to centre to No 58.

W ELEVATION: attic window to right of gable end.

E ELEVATION: blank.

Mainly 4-pane horned timber sash and case windows (aluminium dormer). Grey slate roofs. Partially removed gablehead stacks at either end of terrace and one (rebuilt in brick) to E of No 60-62.

INTERIORS: not inspected (1999).
