Description

The walls of the Walled Garden and the attached bothies and cottage at Piercefield Park form a very large rectangular enclosure made of sandstone rubble. The walls stand about 2.3 meters high, rising to 3.5 meters on the north wall, which supports the bothies and previously supported the greenhouses. The wall is heavily overgrown with ivy but remains intact, featuring several doorways and a break for carts at the northwest corner. The range of bothies along the outside of the north wall consists of rubble walling but lacks roofs. The cottage, located at the northeast corner and facing south into the garden, is constructed of red brick and is two stories tall, although it is now significantly damaged. It has a central door and two windows on each floor, with an oculus above, but the roof is missing. The interiors of both the bothies and the cottage have been destroyed.
