Description
This is a village fountain, likely dating to the late 19th century. It consists of a circular stone base supporting a fine, painted cast-iron fountain. The upper section features a broad, circular bowl with ribbed detailing, surmounted by a square fountain unit with slits at its base, stamped "The Iron Store Company Chepstow." Above this is an octagonal stem, intricately decorated with four fish motifs, and incorporating brackets and a ball and spike finial derived from the Sun Foundry catalogue. The brackets are fitted with hooks intended for hanging water pails. To the north and south of the fountain are projecting plinths each supporting a figure of a child holding an upturned ewer. A drain is located on the north side of the stone base. This fountain has group value as a well-preserved example of a late Victorian village amenity.
