Description
Turnpike Cottage is a two-storey building designed in the Tudor Gothic style, rendered and painted throughout, likely over rubble stone, and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The gable end faces the street and features a canted bay on the ground floor. This bay has small single light windows that look up and down the road, along with a larger 2-light casement window that faces across the road, which would have served as the main door for attending to the gate. The rear gable has a chimney stack and a small later extension. All these elements, including the 3-light casement window in the gable above, are adorned with dripmoulds. The gable also showcases scalloped bargeboards.
On the south elevation, there are two gables, each with scalloped bargeboards, and all windows are 2-light casements, featuring dripmoulds below and plain heads above. The windows on both elevations have been replaced with modern double glazed units that include lattice panes. The north elevation includes a small modern outshut and a trefoil dormer in the roof above. The building was not seen during the resurvey.
