Ruins of Piercefield House, Left Hand or West Pavilion

The ruins of Piercefield House's Left Hand or West Pavilion date back to an unspecified time and are constructed from Bath limestone ashlar with internal brick walling, although the roof is no longer present. The south elevation is the only part that is clearly visible. This pavilion is designed in a temple style, featuring a tetrastyle front with Roman Doric half columns that support a full entablature and pediment. The only opening is a large square-headed one in the center, which has a moulded architrave and keyed head, though it has been damaged. The outer bays include apsed niches intended for statues. Above these niches, there are carved relief panels made of Portland stone, set into the head of each bay above a plat band.

Originally, the pavilion was connected on the right-hand wall to the main block of Piercefield House, which has since been demolished. Evidence on the wall suggests that this connection was likely a corridor with a gabled roof leading to a small door. Historical photographs depict the pavilion as a five-bay arcade with a pitched roof, and they also show that the pediment once supported three statues, while the roof featured a central lantern.

This structure must have functioned as a top-lit single room pavilion. The interior was not examined during the resurvey. In 1819, the Drawing Room, Dining Room, and Saloon containing the main staircase were located in the central block, while the attached pavilions served as the Library and Music Room.
