Lion Gates and attached Lodges at Chepstow Racecourse (Piercefield Park)

The Lion Gates and attached lodges at Chepstow Racecourse, located in Piercefield Park, are constructed from sandstone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs, while the gates and railings are made of wrought iron. The entrance features double iron gates flanked by tall rusticated ashlar piers, with iron railings on a low stone wall. There are foot doors in stone surrounds, also flanked by railings, and single-bay, two-storey lodges on either side. The gate piers are crowned with couchant lions, which may be made of Coade stone. The foot gates resemble sentry boxes and are set within spike railings on a dwarf wall.

The lodges display quoins and a plat band between the storeys, featuring a 3 over 3 pane sash window below and a 2 over 2 pane casement window above. Each lodge has a pyramid roof with paired eaves brackets and an ashlar stack with a weathered head on the outer wall. The entrances and additional windows are located on the side and rear elevations. The interiors were not observed during the resurvey, but they are described as having a basic two-room layout with a small kitchen outshut.
