Description
The former iron entrance gates at The Mount are an elaborate structure dating from the 19th century, featuring five main stepped bays. The gates are highly decorative, showcasing finely wrought crestings, bands, and finials adorned with curlicues and leaf motifs, along with spearheads and turned heads on the railings. In the center, there are tall double gates with a lower middle rail, which hang from open-work piers topped with heavy cornices and tall finials. Smaller pedestrian gates are located on either side, hanging from similar smaller piers, and at each end, there is a section of matching railing.
