Description

The Mount is a mid-19th century villa that stands three stories tall with a three-window range. The front is faced in Bathstone, while the sides and rear are rendered. It features a hipped slate roof behind a parapet, which sweeps to the sides, and the chimneys have been reduced. The building has a fluted cornice with corner rosettes and band courses at sill level.

All the windows are plate glass horned sashes. On the top floor, there is a central sash window flanked by tripartite sashes. The first floor has a similar arrangement, but the central window is adorned with an architrave and cornice. The ground floor includes a stone porch with replaced double doors and a replaced rectangular overlight, flanked by splayed bay windows with sashes that extend to ground level. To the left, there is a short single-storey block with a sash window featuring a bracketed cornice, followed by a block with a splayed bay comprising four windows facing south, with the side window blocked. This bay has a balustraded parapet and a stone urn finial at the junction. To the right, there is a similar short single-storey block with an urn.

The north elevation has a projecting ground floor with a pedimented portico supported by paired columns, flanked by blocked openings, deeply recessed double doors, and a triple sash window on the left, with a cornice and parapet above. At the rear, there is a courtyard formed by a parallel two-storey service block with a six-window range and walls. The elevation of the service block facing the house features a first-floor oriel window, although the rear glazing has been modernised.

Inside, there is a central hall with a panelled dado and a 19th-century wooden stair. Early 20th-century baroque doorcases to the left lead to a large panelled office, which has moulded ceiling decoration from the 20th century. An inscription on the fireplace states, "The panelling and book cases in this suite of offices was taken from the steamships SERVIA and ALASKA the first 'greyhounds' of the Atlantic." The rooms to the right of the hall retain ceilings, cornices, doors, and some panelling that likely dates from the later 19th century.
