Description

The Moat House is a late Georgian townhouse that has been converted into offices and flats, with one side attached to another building. The exterior features rendered stucco walls and a slate roof, which has long narrow stacks at each gable end. The building has a heavy eaves cornice supported by substantial end brackets. It stands two storeys high with a basement and has a three-window range of horned sash windows, featuring narrow glazing bars; the top floor has 12-pane windows while the ground floor has tri-partite 20-pane windows. The central entrance consists of a 4-panelled door topped by a plain rectangular overlight, accessible via a flight of five nosed steps. The forecourt is enclosed by railings and a gate adorned with spear finials, which flank the steps.

Inside, there is a staircase located at the rear of the basement, characterized by stick balusters and a turned newel post. Some fireplaces are reported to still exist in the flats, although some have been boarded up.
