Description

Ashdown House Pavilion, located approximately 20 metres northeast of Ashdown House, was built around 1662. It features imitation stone render with limestone dressings and quoins, and has a stone slate roof with limestone stacks. The original five-by-one bay plan has been significantly altered and is not clearly visible. The pavilion is one and a half storeys high with a five-window range.

The front elevation facing Ashdown House includes a central six-panelled late 19th-century door framed by a limestone eared architrave, a semi-circular arch with a raised key, and a decorative fanlight. It has four-light wood-mullioned and transomed casements with 20th-century plate glass and limestone eared architraves, along with four gabled dormers featuring moulded cornices and 20th-century casements.

The rear elevation mirrors the front with similar windows in a five-window layout and three raised central dormers. The south gable end has a blind door with a limestone eared architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a moulded cornice. Additional architectural details include a moulded plinth, raised and chamfered quoins, a dentilled wood cornice, and a hipped roof topped with a bell cupola, along with end stacks that have moulded caps.

The interior has been gutted by fire and was converted into housekeeper's accommodation in the mid-20th century.
